DIY Home Renovations From Upcycling
After The Hurricane Outdoor Repairs
The storm did a number on the outside of our house too... especially in terms of 'debris.' There was quite a bit of work to be done before the storm, and then the storm came and then, what the storm didn't do, 'squatters and vandals' came along and did.
Here are just a few of the pictures...
The one to the left is our back porch. Lots of stuff that was inside the house was then tossed around, onto the back porch and into the back yard by the vagrants that endeavored to use my house as their own little fort while we were stuck living in hotels.
Here's another view of it, from the back yard, facing into it.

This is our fence down in our back yard...
it was an old fence, barely holding itself together as it was and the wind destroyed what was left of it's strength.
This is one of the worst issues for us to have to deal with, because we have a pool and so county code demands that our yard be fenced.
On the right are a boatload of pallets I'd been storing in the yard forever, for various projects doing this or that.
At this point though, they're so dry-rotted that all they're good for anymore are science experiments.
And next to them is my trailer. I love this trailer.
I bought in 1999 for $200 when I first started buying and selling real estate. It's 6ft wide by 12 ft long and it worked well for things like hauling sheetrock and trips to the dump when we had to clean out a house we bought.
Unfortunately, they no longer make the size tires I have on it, so the tires are hard to find. And, I need a whole new floor on it. I actually wanted to do that this year, but, the minivan we bought after the hurricane wrecked my Explorer, doesn't have a hitch and the cost of adding one is ridiculous... I'd be better off buying a cheap used pick up truck with a hitch already on it.
Here is that side of the house in the front yard... and all the mattresses that need to get hauled off to the dump.

Here is the view 'towards' that side of the house. All of this is more stuff that has to be hauled away.
And it has to be done at the same time as the fence, because we need to clear the way to build the fence, but need to get rid of all of it before the fence is up and in the way.
And this is the view from the other side of the back yard...
it's not too bad. The pallet stays, but the giant cage and the non-functioning lawnmower need to go.
We've making some great progress on the inside of the house... and we just had a cold front. It was too cold to do a lot of anything outside, but we did just get the garage started yesterday and we made a lot of progress in there. Today it warmed up a bit outside too, so we figured it would be a good time to start working in the yard.
