Hurricane Irma, 6 months later... the home repairs

DIY Home Renovations From Upcycling

Home Repairs, Remodeling And Redecorating... On A Budget

Six months ago,  in September of 2017, Hurricane Irma landed upon the West Coast of Florida with a fury.

We were the last county 'hit', and though we had nowhere near the battering that areas in Southwest Florida too, we did have damage.

The wind tore shingles off our roof, causing the water to come in and bear down on our ceilings, which then gave way to insulation and sheetrock (drywall) falling down on our heads, bed and living room floor.

The wind also 'shook' our garage door frame so hard, that the house has been sitting 'open' to all manner of critter for a half a year... even critters of the 'human variety,' (otherwise known as, vandals.)

We had to tear out all the carpet due to the falling rain soaking it, beginning the 'mold and mildew' process that could be 'deadly' to all of us (especially my asthmatic older son, Michael.)

And... that mold and mildew crept it's way in anyway.

We've got at least 5 broken windows and more 'debris' than I care to write about.  (I'll post a picture)...

And our back yard fence is gone.

Of course... the house was built in 1985 and for the past 10 years has been abused, and neglected and neglected and abused... (but that's another story for another time)...

So the hurricane pretty much put things in perspective..not only was it time to start fixing this house up... it was time for me to part ways with the past and move forward.

Even though I need a new roof, new windows, new carpets and new kitchen cabinets due to the water damage, I also hated my master bathroom, and desperately wanted an updated kitchen.

And just in case that's not enough, both boys are well beyond the age of their bedroom decor, and now need 'separate spaces.'
